Anonymous said: Which bands/records/songs inspired your works? For example the Jamaica, the Iceland, the Scotland singles? All of them sound very different.

part of the idea, at least for me, is to try to listen to music that was created in those places and allow them to influence the songwriting choices we make.  patrick’s lyrics to all fruit is ripe were inspired by him mishearing lyrics to a junior murvin song.  going into iceland i was listening to a lot of dead skeletons.  this scotland record was actually written during soundchecks while we were on tour in the uk; we had a long night drive a few days before where we revisited mogwai’s “come on, die young”.  they also sound different because they are recorded in unique studios with almost entirely borrowed gear and engineered by non-family members.

Today, I believe, is the street date of our new record, seen at top.

It’s got some of our strongest recorded output on it. And it looks nice.

The three images beneath it are photos that were rejected as jacket art for the single.

I understand why we eventually went with the photo we did, but part of me still wishes we used the bottom image. It perfectly captures my mood around that time.

Well here I am with SDF’s Scotland in my hands, and CODY isn’t set to release until the 14th, after being pushed back over three months.
